Big Drop in Diesel Prices Across U.S.

For the sixth straight week, diesel prices fell in the United States, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This week's drop was a big one across the entire country as prices fell in the United States below $3.90 for the first time since mid-January as prices fell to $3.89. Each region saw a big drop with only region's diesel prices falling by less than two cents.

East Coast
For the first time since the January 27 diesel report, diesel prices in the East Coast have dropped below $4 per gallon after falling by three cents to $3.98 this week. This week is the seventh consecutive week diesel prices have dropped on the East Coast.

New England
For an unbelievable 14th straight week, diesel prices in New England dropped, but remain as the most expensive in the United States at $4.09. This is the least expensive diesel has been in the region since late December.

Central Atlantic
New England's run of 14 straight weeks with diesel prices dropping is impressive, but diesel prices have now fallen in the Central Atlantic region for the 15th straight. After falling by nearly four cents, diesel prices in this region are now at $4.079, which is still the second most expensive in the country.

Lower Atlantic
The third lowest diesel prices in the country are in the Lower Atlantic region where prices dropped to $4.08 after a more than two cent drop.

Midwest
The Midwest features the second lowest diesel prices in the country and is the only region where the price is less today than it was at this time in 2013. Prices fell by nearly three cents from $3.874 to $3.845 this week.

Gulf Coast
For the 63rd straight week, the lowest diesel prices in the United States are in the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast featured the smallest decrease in the country, though prices fell to $3.769 from $3.783.

Rocky Mountain
After diesel prices reached as high as $4 per gallon on March 10, prices have slowly dropped and after a nearly three cent drop this week, diesel prices now sit at $3.91 in the Rocky Mountain region.

West Coast
For the first time since mid-April, diesel prices have fallen below the $4 threshold on the West Coast where prices dropped nearly three cents to $3.995.

West Coast less California
Diesel prices in the West Coast fell by more than two cents this week, from $3.923 to $3.899.

California
For the sixth straight week, diesel prices in California dropped. This week, prices fell by three cents from $4.10 to $4.07 and are the third most expensive in the country.

In order for diesel prices to reach the projected average of $3.87 per gallon, prices in the United States as a whole would need to average a bit over $3.80 the remainder of the year.
